Celebrating 30 Years of Serving Our Community

Beacon Housing was formally established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on August 20, 1996, by Jack and Bob Samuelson. What began as a challenge to give back to their community quickly became a calling. Jack brought the idea to his brother and business partner, Bob, and together they agreed to meet the challenge using what they knew best—building and construction. With this shared expertise, Jack and Bob made it their mission to provide safe, affordable housing and refuge for people in need throughout Los Angeles. Thus began their journey.

Nearly 30 years later, that mission continues. Beacon Housing remains dedicated to helping low-income households across Los Angeles County secure stable, affordable housing and build a foundation for a better future.

Casa de Alegria

Casa de Alegria est. 1999

"I lived at Casa for 2.5 years until I found my job. During that time, I feel that I became more mature and responsible. Casa provided excellent living conditions and opportunities for girls who are willing to take advantage of real help and improve their future. Living at Casa gave me structure, which guided and helped me to focus on my school and my child. I now work as a Registered Nurse at a home care agency. I really enjoy and love my job. I’m also planning to continue my education.

I want to thank God for making and molding me into the person I am today. I would also like to express my gratitude and appreciation for all people who are helping Casa to support women like me. We know that God opened your hearts to help me and my son to have a better future."

Lowe House

Lowe House est. 2003

“Life had not been easy being a single mother trying to provide for my 3 boys and myself, however, living here at the Lowe house has contributed to my completion of my degree in education, special education - mild to moderate. Having an affordable and stable home has played an enormous part in our continual success, and we couldn’t have done it without the help of Beacon Housing. Thank you for all you have done for my boys and I, from furnishing our first home in 2022 to your continual love and support in 2023. Thank you! I could not have done this without you. So, we did it!"

Garfield Agape Court

Garfield Agape Court est. 2000

"We came to know about this place from a friend who said that the rent would potentially be less than what we were paying where we lived before— this was in 2003. The pricing continues to benefit us. Its location also helped when commuting to work as well. The community room of the building was convenient when we wanted to attend a church service.

When he was a child, my son benefited from the homework club that the building has. When he was in high school he volunteered at the homework club which counted for his required community service hours in high school. Its location, once again, proves to be convenient for my son while pursuing a degree in Biology at Cal State LA. The metro bus stop at the Lake avenue train station takes him there directly. We are extremely grateful for all the benefits of living here at Garfield Agape Court and continuing to give us."
